Tomato Snobbery
Many gardeners are quite adamant most some of the varieties of veggies they prefer to abound, including me.
But when it comes to whether that veggie is an heirloom or a hybrid, I accept plant a few gardeners to be a fleck snooty.
In that location are a scattering of growers out there, and this is especially truthful when talking almost tomatoes, that recall because they grow heirlooms their plants are somehow better.
And they tend to be vocal.

heirloom Oxheart
Note: We're not talking most GMO's, learn the deviation here.
Call up about it.
If heirlooms were inherently superior, there would have been no need to develop hybrids, right?
And then why did they?
Well, one reason was ship-ability.
Information technology'due south important to those that grow for market to have tomatoes that are compatible in size and tin handle travel.
But that doesn't utilize to the home grower, and then what else?

hybrid Early Daughter
A hybrid that will ripen sooner, similar Early Girl or 4th. of July, tin can exist very popular in the lawn garden.
There are also hybrids that are heavier producers, are disease resistant, or are bred specifically for container growing.
And that's not all- there are tomatoes that tin take more heat, and ones that tin take more cold.

heirloom Frank'southward Iranian
Guess what? They have fifty-fifty crossed heirloom tomatoes that gustation swell with ones that have some of the qualities mentioned in a higher place.
Can you imagine a dandy tasting tomato that ripens sooner?
Someone already has, and they developed information technology.

hybrid Viva Italia
What we in the Jones' garden grow is a blend of both heirlooms and hybrids.
Our Early Girls get us that homegrown gustatory modality sooner.
We choose a hybrid roma with heavy production characteristics since we 'put up' a lot of salsa, sauce, soup and juice.
And nosotros grow heirlooms too- for fresh eating flavor and diversity.
I admit this is where my tomato snobbery shows- because to me, to use an heirloom tomato for canning is alike to sacrilege.

heirloom San Diego Paste
IMHO not 1 of these varieties is 'better' than whatsoever other, they are just different.
So if you've got your olfactory organ in the air considering you're growing only heirlooms and you think your plants are ameliorate - well, salubrious.
But understand that if you lot're limiting your thinking, you lot may be limiting your garden'southward potential equally well.
What's your opinion?
Give thanks you lot for sharing this post.
